STEALING WALLS.

i feel that graffiti is the rawest form of expression, period. a completely street created and driven art form that has exploded world wide. i know this isnt a "graffiti blog" but i like to share whatever i find thats passionate and make no mistake that a true graffiti writer will be one of the most resourceful, well rounded and artistic people you will come across if given the chance. the sheer mystery and style behind publicly displaying your art no matter what the consequence has always fascinated me. this is a short film by some of the biggest in the game. its called Stolen Walls. brought to you by MTN paints of Spain. its worth checking out if you are a fan of art, rebellion and even fashion.

Long Beach Police kill man armed with water hose nozzle.

if this were you and me, we'd be doing 25 to life. fuck the police.

you can find the complete article here:

http://abclocal.go.com/kabc/story?section=news/local/los_angeles&id=7841376&cmp=twi-kabc-article-7841376

***

A man believed to be armed was shot to death by Long Beach police on Sunday. The man was later found to be holding a water nozzle.

Authorities responded to a report of a person with a gun in the 5300 block of East Ocean Boulevard of a Belmont Shore neighborhood about 4:40 p.m.

Officers saw a man believed to be armed with a handgun and took cover, but while waiting for backup officers, an officer-involved shooting occurred.

The suspect was declared dead at the scene after suffering a gunshot wound in the torso area. The Los Angeles County Coroner's Office identified the man as 35-year-old Douglas Zerby.

During a news conference Monday, Long Beach Police Chief Jim McDonnell said Zerby had pointed a black pistol-grip water hose nozzle at police officers.

Zerby allegedly pointed the object in a two-handed posture from a seated position that looked like what a person would do when they are about to fire a weapon.

Long Beach police said Zerby was drunk at the time.

"There were, I believe, two rounds from a shotgun and six rounds from a handgun," said McDonnell about the shots fired by officers.

McDonnell offered his and his department's condolences to the family.

Zerby's family said he had a drug and alcohol problem, but asked why police couldn't do something else than shoot him.

"I know that they're trained, well paid, taught to make snap-minute decisions, but what I don't understand is how can you make a decision to do something and someone is actually sitting there," said Zerby's father, Mark. "

"I want my son back," said Zerby's mother, Pam Amici. "He was a wonderful young man. He loved the ocean and the sun. He was quiet, he was spiritual. He never hurt anyone. We really miss him a lot."

No officers were injured in the incident.

The family contends officers failed to identify themselves to Zerby upon arriving.

The Los Angeles District Attorney's Office and Long Beach Police Departmentare investigating the fatal shooting.

It could be months before they're findings are made public.

Zerby is survived by an 8-year-old son.

About two dozen friends and family showed up in the evening to hold a candlelight vigil.

The Carrier - Blind to What is Right.

alright so i decided to talk about or "review" the new full length from Boston MA's The Carrier. the LP is titled Blind to What is Right and from the very first track, you know this record is going to be a completely more aggressive journey than their last record One Year Later. given the time in between both records and how much longer Blind to What is Right took to come out, or in this class leak a few weeks early you can tell The Carrier is dead set on this newer approach to their song structure.

i think the LP plays both into two styles The Carrier has always carried well, aggressive heaviness and melodic drawn out intros and interludes that break up the songs and take you on a lighter sounding sort of journey. as i listen to the record and write this i can tell you that tracks that automatically stand up out to from the start are: Blind to What is Right, Everyone I Knew and Loved is Gone and In Slience Together.

every single track on the record seems to have a progression that sorts with almost chaotic sounding intro, to riffy verse with almost too much lyric/word context thrown on top of it and huge breaks that make the track stand out very well.

im not very sure if The Carrier chose to stray away from melodic leads and concentrate more on a overbearing aggressive and extremely dark tone. as a whole the record isn't bad at all, i just think it'll strike certain fan's a different way depending on what you have been a fan of from The Carrier's careerthus far.

a big improvement for me is the vocals. not so much the transitions or amount of content that seem a bit "forced" but the vocals definitely keep this LP in your face and very unforgiving and doesn't seem to be lacking in a overall depression/rage/sadness typed fueled record.

im no expert song or album reviewer i just have followed The Carrier and am definitely a fan so i dont believe in rating a album or fucking stars or 5 out of 5 microphones or what not. i think its important to point out of the strong points of the record.

all in all, if you like The Carrier, check this record out. if you are a fan of aggressive music with a dark tone to it. check it out. if you like hardcore check it out.

the end.

im not going to post the link because i figure most of you would be able to find it but support and check out The Carrier here.

DARASUUM.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
today's band feature is Southern California's DARASUUM. they are a melodic hardcore band with various influences and a distinct sound that is not really been heard or "seen" in southern california as of late. they mix a perfect blend of metal influnced hardcore but not over doing it with huge stretched ears and flashy imagery. below is a interview i did with Gabe of DARASUUM.

ATW: whats up? who are you and what do you do in DARASUUM?

Gabe: haha i am Gabe and i handle all the vocals (never vokills) for Darasuum

ATW: right on, when i listen to Darasuum i hear hints of Comeback Kid, old Throwdown and other things i cant really put into words. what are some bands you think if kids were into, they'd respond well with you guys?

Gabe: um, its kind of hard too say. i like to think we mesh well with bands like Your Demise, Stick To Your Guns and The Ghost Inside but i also feel we're more metal than those bands. We're definitely not as positive as STYG or TGi but we have our moments. But i think we're all move the place musically that almost any fan of heavy music can get into us. We try to bridge that gap because hardcore and metalcore i suppose. we're all over the place.

ATW: i used to sing for a band, nothing compares to being in control of vocals. who are some huge influcences for you personally?

Gabe: i've always love Keith Barney in his Throwdown days and Rick Rodney from Strife. Lyrically i love Raybeez from Warzone. The first song off of Fight For Justice is fucking brilliant. Definitely kept it fucking real.

ATW: no joke, all perfect frontmen. You Dont Have To Be Blood to Be Family got me into hardcore, flawless record. what does Darasuum have coming up? long term goals?

Gabe: We have the EP being released on a label to be announced. After that we just have a short So. Cal run with Stick To Your Guns and Sleeping Giant. Then we do a couple shows with Loyal To The Grave immediately after. Then next year we just plan to get a avan and start touring our asses off. See what comes of this shit haha

ATW: that rules, stoked to hear it. im from the Inland Empire, you are and i know your band is proud to be. how important of a role does location play in a band in your opinion? I know damn well Darasuum wont be a southern california band to claim to be from LA when out of state haha

Gabe: oh, we definitely love the IE and are proud of it. There's IE bands who claim LA and i think its ridiculous. Its up to the bands to put their home towns on the map, not go claiming another city just because its more well known or because most bands came from there. People need to learn how to have more hometown pride.

ATW: could not agree more. what do you guys have released as of right now and where can we find it?

Gabe: we have a demo and an EP. both are available for free on our bandcamp at http://darasuumhc.bandcamp.com/ and people can find any other info from our website (yes a website!) http://darasuumhc.weebly.com

ATW: what would you want to see be acomplished? big or small with DARASUUM?

Gabe: i just want to fucking tour. i want to see the world and be able to say "i got to do all that by fucking screaming?". Thats my goal. I'm 25, not a kid anymore. This is my last chance to make this shit happen

ATW: perfect. any last words?

Gabe: download our shit. buy a shirt from Merch Connection and do the same for the other bands you kids dig. Support support support. And buy CDs if you have the extra money, kids!!! CD sales help bands tour and get on better tours.

Thanks Gabe!

and if you didnt read before, you can find everything on DARASUUM here.

HORDES.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

first band feature is a band from my hometown of San Bernardino, CA. they are called HORDES. they recently played their first show. think of Eyehategod, Heresey and His Hero is Gone. pissed and dark. im not the biggest expert of this darker genre of hardcore, i think when i listen to these dudes i hear things that range from Integrity, Cursed etc. fuck labels. the following was with two good friends of mine. Jacob and Derek. im new to this so bear with me.

ATW: who are you and what do you do in Hordes?

Jacob: I am Jacob. I'm the spokesperson/lyricist.

Derek: My name is Derek I bring the thunder! Which means I play bass

ATW: 5 bands that personally inspire you?

Jacob: Integrity, State of Fear, Napalm Death, AFI, & anything Danzig related.

Derek: Each person in the band has a different genre of music or band that they drawn influence from so for me 5 bands I would say that influence me would be integrity cursed from ashes rise tragedy disfear
I'd say one band we all agree on as an influence would be from ashes rise

ATW: what are some bands your into that people might be surprised from considering your style?

Jacob: Really, there's nothing surprising. I'm almost positive I'm known as the AFI guy in the hardcore community. I'm a huge Beatles fan. Bjork is great. 70's post punk is a big part of my life as well as the 80's dark wave movement. & Duncan Sheik. Wonderful artist.

Derek: i'm into hip hop recently started becoming heavy into that. New kid cudi is awesome. That's kind of typical so I'll say frank sinatra I love Frank Sinatra amazing music.

ATW: You just played your first show. whats next?

Jacob: We have some shows in the works. Other than that we just plan on writing music that makes people uncomfortable.

Derek: More shows, new songs, hopefully a 7in in the future

there you have it.

below is HORDE's first show. filmed last night actually. enjoy!

please check out HORDE's at: www.hordeshc.wordpress.com

Killing the Dream - Live at Sonar. Baltimore, MD. October 9th 2010.

incredible set. check it out.

make sure to check out hate5six.com as well.

Killing the Dream - Lucky Me.

what can be said about northern california's Killing the Dream that hasn't been said? Lucky Me has to be the biggest leap this band has taken melodically, lyrically all with a darker undertone that is subtle in previous records but really stands out in Lucky Me. if you were hoping this LP had that textbook pissed off/good transitioned blueprint, well it does. to an extent but this LP has to have some of the most daring transitions of any other current hardcore band, especially in 2010 with a huge influx of NYHC and most aggressive bands taking the scene by storm.

i think its safe to say that this isnt only a hardcore record, but its a record for people that enjoy hearing every instrument and every element of a bands music separate but together all at once. in typical Killing the Dream fashion the guitar work is flawless and much like Fractures have decided to keep a very raw and corrosive sort of recording for this LP. this record picks up in SOME places that Fractures left off but experiments with some risky tones and song set up. all in all, if you've followed Killing the Dream and have seen them live, you have without a doubt in your mind that these tracks will be not only intense live, but passion filled. they will forever be one of my favorite bands. it is really worth checking out.

check out Killing the Dream here.
purchase Lucky Me here.
and if you'd like to get your hands on it this very second, here. (thank you Toxic Breed, follow them).

whobangin' your block.

so i recently moved to Victorville, CA around 2-3 months ago. feels like an eternity but i really hate this place. i understand its home to some but its just not what im used to. i know around MAYBE 5 people up here that i think are solid and this man is one of them.

you might know him as Whobangin' an iced out snowman, local sketchy activity setter upper, official Rotting Out merch slang member and is known to get loose.

he runs a online shop and has varying things from time to time and runs Rotting Out's web order and sell's some of his own artistic belongings.

please take a minute to check out my dudes site and support Rotting Out here to the fullest.

and here.

Rotting Out Triple B Showcase PT. 1 from Whobangin' on Vimeo.

here goes nothing.

alright so check it out. this has been something i've wanted to put together for a while. this isn't going to be something to check out that is in any sort "flashy" or over done. i plan to keep this and simple and short as possible. im aware that there are a million fucking blogs on the internet that probably do this same concept so i guess this is my take on it. i plan to have interviews with current hardcore bands that i feel are important enough right now to mention, pressing issues that i think people should pay attention, new music plugs, my own shitty music reviews etc. im not an english scholar, there will be mistakes. there will be things that probably dont make sense. i guess thats your job to figure out what it is that im trying to say.

im going to start off with a little information with myself: my name is Joe. i reside in southern california. i've been going to punk/hardcore and metal shows since i was 12 years old. im straight edge. some of you know may know by the infamous @joeitalone in the twitter world AKA very opinionated and always right.

i hope you keep checking up on this thing and tell me what im doing wrong or right.

and yes, this blog title is inspired by the track from san francisco straight edge hero's known as Allegiance. enough about me, i'll post something worth reading within a few days i hope.

thanks!

-Joe
